Reverend John Hayab of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has strongly condemned the ongoing violence plaguing Kaduna State. He emphasized CAN's consistent stance against all forms of aggression, urging an end to the destructive cycle of attacks.

Hayab cautioned against the dangerous narrative of comparing which group has suffered more. He believes such comparisons only distract from the urgent need for solutions and foster further division among communities.

"People must stop the blame game and confront the truth," Hayab stated, stressing the importance of acknowledging the realities on the ground rather than engaging in unproductive debates.

Addressing claims that casualty statistics have been biased towards Christians by international bodies, Hayab issued a direct challenge. He urged critics to present credible evidence that contradicts his firsthand knowledge of events, especially in Southern Kaduna.

Southern Kaduna has witnessed a distressing frequency of mass burials, with instances of 30, 40, 50, 20, or even 10 people being buried at once. Hayab questioned, "Who is killing whom in Southern Kaduna?" underscoring the severity of the crisis.

He reiterated CAN's consistent message: to work collaboratively to end the killings and ensure perpetrators are brought to justice, emphasizing a unified approach to peace.

While the JNI has advocated for balanced reporting and attention to underlying causes like land disputes and ethnic tensions, Hayab echoed the necessity for a broader and more inclusive approach to resolving the conflict.

He made a strong appeal to religious leaders across all faiths, urging them to condemn violence within their own communities and prioritize genuine peace-building efforts.

"If we truly want to address the root causes of this crisis, we must stop pointing fingers and call a spade a spade," he stressed, advocating for honesty and accountability.

Hayab cited his own swift condemnation of the Mangu killings as an example of the accountability required from faith leaders. "When the Mangu incident occurred, I publicly condemned it and described it as driven by the wrong spirit," he affirmed, highlighting his consistent stance.
