Saudi Arabia's Breastfeeding Association has taken a significant step forward in advancing maternal and child health by hosting its second international conference in Riyadh. The three-day event, held from Oct. 5-7, brought together leading lactation specialists, healthcare professionals, and industry experts from around the world to share insights and innovations in breastfeeding practices. The conference focuses on raising awareness, educating families, and ensuring that mothers receive the vital support they need to give their children the best possible start in life.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Fatima Yousef Al-Juwan, chair of the board and founding member of the association, highlighted their commitment to achieving Saudi Vision 2030 goals. She emphasized the target of reaching 70 percent of breastfeeding mothers through early and continuous support. "The right guidance from the very first moment makes a difference that lasts a lifetime," she said, underlining the importance of sustainable health strategies for future generations.

The association's mission centers on ensuring that every mother receives the assistance she deserves and every child benefits from proper early nutrition. Breastfeeding is not merely a maternal choice but a cornerstone of public health and societal well-being. To achieve this, the association works on multiple fronts, including public awareness campaigns, professional training for healthcare workers, and institutional capacity building to strengthen research and financial sustainability.

A key part of their work is training mothers to become certified breastfeeding mentors. Accredited by the World Health Organization and UNICEF, this mentorship program has already produced more than 500 licensed experts. These mentors guide mothers through every stage — from pregnancy to weaning — offering tailored, practical support that enhances confidence and outcomes.

The conference also underscores the alignment of breastfeeding initiatives with global Sustainable Development Goals, including eradicating hunger and poverty, improving health, reducing inequalities, and encouraging responsible consumption. Such alignment highlights the broader societal impact of breastfeeding support, extending beyond individual families to national and global well-being.

In addition to panel sessions and educational workshops, the event featured award ceremonies honoring partners and dedicated mothers, as well as exhibitions showcasing maternal and infant care products. Through these initiatives, the Breastfeeding Association continues to shape a healthier, more resilient future by empowering mothers and nurturing the next generation from the very beginning.
