Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the UK, Prince Khalid bin Bandar, has reiterated the kingdom's commitment to a two-state solution as the only viable way to resolve the Palestinian issue. Speaking at a panel discussion, Prince Khalid emphasized that Saudi Arabia rejects any notion of a one-state outcome, instead advocating for a separate Palestinian state alongside Israel.

The ambassador's remarks came ahead of the emergency Arab Summit in Cairo, scheduled for March 4, where leaders will discuss coordinated efforts to support Palestine and address regional issues. The summit is largely a response to US President Donald Trump's proposal to "take over" Gaza, which has been widely condemned by Arab leaders.

Prince Khalid expressed optimism about finding a solution, citing widespread international agreement on the need for a two-state solution. However, he identified Israel's lack of engagement as a major obstacle to progress. "For the first time, very openly, our biggest issue is dealing with Israel," he said, emphasizing that the Israeli government seems unwilling to consider meaningful solutions.

The ambassador also highlighted a notable shift in approach among Arab states over the past month, with increased engagement and a sense of urgency. "The last 30 days of the (US) administration feel like it's been 10 years," he said. "Things have changed. People have begun taking action and engaging."

Prince Khalid also discussed Saudi Arabia's evolving relationships with regional powers, including Syria, Iran, and Türkiye. He noted that while ties with Damascus are improving, Riyadh remains cautious due to historical trust issues. However, he emphasized the importance of building trust and exploring opportunities for cooperation.

In addressing the recent US-Russia talks hosted in Riyadh, Prince Khalid stressed the kingdom's role in providing a neutral platform for dialogue. He also acknowledged the absence of Ukrainian representation at the talks, emphasizing that peace negotiations require all parties to be present. "You can't have peace between two people without one person at the table," he said.
