For the first time in five years, Kano's rival Emirs, Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero, are set to meet. This historic encounter will take place today, Tuesday, at the burial of late business mogul Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata in Madinah, Saudi Arabia.

Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, a renowned elder statesman and philanthropist, passed away on Friday night in Abu Dhabi, UAE, at 94. His funeral rites are scheduled for today in the holy city of Madinah, adhering to Islamic tradition.

Given Dantata's significant influence, political figures, businessmen, and various delegations are converging on Saudi Arabia. This includes an official Kano State Government delegation, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, alongside Emir Sanusi II.

Notably, the rival 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, also traveled separately with his aides to Madinah for the funeral. Both Emirs currently assert claims to the Kano Emirate throne, a matter pending judicial resolution.

A spokesperson for Emir Bayero confirmed his Sunday departure from Nigeria, accompanied by notable associates like Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan'agundi. The presence of both claimants at the same event is highly anticipated.

While it's uncertain if pleasantries will be exchanged, this burial marks a pivotal moment. It is the first public occasion where both Emirs will be seen together since Sanusi II's controversial deposition in 2020 and Bayero's subsequent removal in 2024.
