An Upper Area Court in Ganmo, Kwara State, has ordered the remand of Alhaja Kafilat Kaola, a well-known Islamic preacher and school proprietor. She will be held at the Oke Kura Correctional Facility in Ilorin.

The remand follows a defamation case initiated against her by fellow cleric, Alhaji Taofeek Akewugbagold. The high-profile nature of both individuals in Islamic circles has drawn significant public attention to the proceedings.

During the court session, Kaola's legal counsel sought her bail on self-recognition, emphasizing her standing in the community and religious circles. They assured the court that she would not abscond.

However, the plaintiff's counsel, Ajasa Ademola, opposed the bail application. He argued that Kaola has a history of similar conduct, presenting video evidence allegedly showing her ridiculing a judge and lawyers in a previous case.

Ajasa contended that her past actions amounted to contempt, disqualifying her from bail under existing legal principles. This strong opposition highlighted concerns about her respect for the judicial process.

After considering arguments from both sides, the presiding judge ruled that Alhaja Kaola remain in prison custody. The next hearing date for the case has been set for July 17, 2025.
