Mandla Mandela, the grandson of South Africa's late leader Nelson Mandela, has announced that he will join an international aid flotilla heading to Gaza. He made the declaration at a press event in Tunis, Tunisia, where preparations for the mission are underway. His participation has drawn global attention due to his family's legacy of fighting against apartheid and injustice.

Mandela emphasized that the struggle of Palestinians reminds Africans of their own painful history. "As Africans, we know very well what it means to live under occupation, under oppression," he said. His words have resonated with many activists and human rights defenders across Africa and beyond.

The Global Sumud Flotilla, which Mandela will join, is a humanitarian mission organized to deliver aid to Palestinians in Gaza. The organizers confirmed that their boat will sail from Tunisia, joining other vessels that have already left from Spain and Italy. The name "Sumud" means steadfastness, symbolizing the resilience of the Palestinian people.

Organizers say around 100 international activists have registered for the Tunis flotilla. These participants represent a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds, united by their demand for freedom of movement and basic human rights in Gaza.

The journey was originally scheduled to begin last Thursday but was delayed due to poor weather conditions. The departure is now planned for Sunday, though the exact time and location have yet to be finalized.
