Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun has called for Hezbollah's disarmament and the full return of state control across Lebanon. He warned that failure to act will lead to state collapse.
Speaking on Army Day, Aoun urged all armed groups to trust the Lebanese state and army alone for protection, or risk wasting years of sacrifice and struggle.
He said Lebanon must choose between peace or chaos, especially as it faces deep economic and political crises. Aoun warned that the state cannot survive divided loyalty and uncontrolled weapons.
Aoun revealed plans to present updated disarmament proposals to the Council of Ministers next week. These are part of the ongoing peace process tied to a fragile ceasefire with Israel.
Key demands include Israeli withdrawal, release of prisoners, and one national army. In exchange, all militias, including Hezbollah, must give up arms.
The president ended by urging unity, international aid, and loyalty to Lebanon—not factions or foreign wars.
