Israel's far-right National Security Minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, strongly criticized the country's Supreme Court after it ruled that Palestinian prisoners must receive improved food and proper nutrition. The ruling, issued on Sunday, has sparked heated political debate across Israel.

Speaking to reporters after a separate security incident, Ben Gvir dismissed the decision and argued that the court was giving special treatment to individuals he described as "terrorists and murderers." He stressed that the current prison conditions should remain unchanged.

The Supreme Court decision came after complaints that food provided to Palestinian prisoners failed to meet basic health and nutritional standards. The judges stated that Israel's prison service has a duty to provide detainees with meals that respect both human dignity and international regulations.

Ben Gvir, however, insisted that easing prison conditions would weaken Israel's security stance. He claimed that maintaining strict policies serves as a deterrent against attacks and discourages violence. His comments reflect the broader stance of his far-right supporters who favor harsher measures.

The issue of Palestinian prisoners' rights has long been a sensitive and divisive matter in Israel. Human rights groups frequently accuse the government of violating international standards, while officials like Ben Gvir argue that leniency could threaten national security.

As the debate continues, the court's ruling highlights the tension between Israel's judiciary and political leaders. The outcome may shape future prison policies and could also influence Israel's international image regarding human rights obligations.
