A senior Hamas leader has confirmed that the movement is carefully reviewing US President Donald Trump's proposed Gaza ceasefire plan and will deliver an official response soon. Mohammed Nazzal, speaking to Al Jazeera in Doha, said Hamas is treating the initiative with seriousness despite its "many reservations." He emphasized that the group seeks to negotiate "away from the pressure of time and threats," indicating that consultations are underway both internally and with various Palestinian factions, independent figures, and mediators.

Nazzal highlighted that Hamas's final decision would prioritize "the interests of the Palestinian people and the strategic constants of the Palestinian cause." This stance reflects the movement's intent to safeguard its long-term objectives while exploring potential diplomatic solutions to the prolonged conflict. The deliberations mark a significant moment in the ongoing crisis, as Hamas balances political considerations with its ideological commitments.

The proposed plan, unveiled by the White House on September 29, lays out a multi-phase process aimed at ending hostilities and stabilizing the Gaza Strip. It begins with an immediate ceasefire, followed by a large-scale reconstruction effort and the reorganization of Gaza's political and security landscape. A key element of the plan involves transforming Gaza into a weapons-free zone under a transitional governance structure.

Oversight of this new arrangement would be conducted by an international monitoring body led directly by President Trump. The deal also calls for the release of all Israeli captives held by Hamas within 72 hours, to be reciprocated by Israel's release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. This mutual exchange is intended to build trust and facilitate further political progress.

The proposal further outlines the gradual disarmament of Palestinian resistance groups and a phased Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza. Following these steps, the territory would be administered by a technocratic authority under international supervision, marking a shift from Hamas's current governance.

Trump has stated that Hamas has "three or four days" to respond to the proposal, which he argues could bring an end to the nearly two-year-long war in Gaza. The coming days will be crucial in determining whether this ambitious plan can serve as a foundation for peace or deepen the existing stalemate.
