One in ten children screened in clinics operated by the United Nations refugee agency (UNRWA) in Gaza are suffering from malnutrition. This dire statistic highlights a growing humanitarian crisis.

UNRWA has confirmed a disturbing trend: malnutrition rates are rapidly increasing across Gaza. This escalation is particularly noticeable following the tightening of the siege.

The siege, which intensified over four months ago on March 2nd, has severely restricted the flow of essential supplies into the region. This has directly impacted the availability of nutritious food.

Juliette Touma, UNRWA's Director of Communications, conveyed this urgent message to reporters. She spoke from Amman, Jordan, via a video link to Geneva.

Her statement underscores the critical impact of the prolonged siege on the health and well-being of Gaza's most vulnerable population: its children. The situation demands immediate attention.

The international community faces an urgent call to address this escalating crisis. Providing aid and ensuring consistent access to food are vital steps to prevent further suffering among Gaza's children.
