A devastating earthquake has struck eastern Afghanistan, claiming more than 600 lives and leaving over 1,500 people injured. The magnitude 6.0 quake hit the provinces of Kunar and Nangarhar, shaking communities already battling poverty and humanitarian struggles. Entire villages in Kunar were reduced to rubble, making it one of the deadliest earthquakes in Afghanistan's recent history.

Rescue teams and volunteers are working day and night to find survivors under the collapsed buildings. Helicopters have been deployed to carry injured victims from remote areas to nearby hospitals. Reports confirm that more than 610 deaths occurred in Kunar province alone, with additional casualties recorded in Nangarhar. The disaster has left families homeless and desperate for shelter, food, and medical care.

Military forces have stepped in with more than 40 emergency flights, transporting over 420 dead and wounded to safer locations. Despite their efforts, many people remain trapped, and rescue workers fear the death toll may rise as operations continue in difficult terrain.

This earthquake is the deadliest Afghanistan has experienced since June 2022, when another powerful tremor killed more than 1,000 people. Survivors describe terrifying scenes of houses collapsing instantly, leaving little time to escape.

Adding to the tragedy, Afghanistan is currently facing severe humanitarian challenges, including food shortages and reduced foreign aid. The lack of international support has worsened the suffering of victims who urgently need relief.

Aid agencies are calling for global attention and support, urging immediate humanitarian assistance to rebuild lives shattered by this catastrophic earthquake.
