In a historic shift, three major Arab powers — Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt — have jointly called for Hamas to disband and hand over control of Gaza. This is the first time these nations have made such a public demand, aligning with Western countries like Britain, France, and Canada. The unified statement, released after a high-level UN conference, marks a turning point in Middle East diplomacy.

The declaration calls for Hamas to surrender its weapons and authority in Gaza to the Palestinian Authority, with support from the international community. The goal is to pave the way for a sovereign, independent Palestinian state. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot described the move as "historic and unprecedented," highlighting its significance in regional politics.

This bold statement also condemned Hamas's attacks on October 7 and stressed that the group should play no role in future Palestinian governance. David Lammy, the UK's Foreign Secretary, strongly supported the call, stating Hamas must be held accountable and should not benefit from violence. He urged the release of all Israeli hostages and called for a lasting ceasefire.

The statement envisions a two-state solution, with foreign peacekeeping forces temporarily deployed in Gaza under UN guidance. It demands mutual security guarantees for both Israel and Palestine, aiming for peaceful coexistence in the region.

While Israel and the United States did not sign the agreement, the declaration sends a clear message: Arab and Western nations are now aligned in pressuring Hamas to step aside.

Hope now rests on diplomacy, unity, and a long-overdue path to peace.
