The Manners of Hajj (Pilgrimage) in Islam

Hajj, the fifth pillar of Islam, is a sacred journey to the House of Allah in Makkah, required once in a lifetime for those who are able. Beyond rituals, Hajj teaches humility, patience, equality, and total submission to Allah.

Allah commands:

وَأَذِّنْ فِي النَّاسِ بِالْحَجِّ يَأْتُوكَ رِجَالًا وَعَلَىٰ كُلِّ ضَامِرٍ يَأْتِينَ مِنْ كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَمِيقٍ
"And proclaim the Hajj to the people; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel from every distant path."
— Surah Al-Hajj (22:27)

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"مَنْ حَجَّ لِلَّهِ، فَلَمْ يَرْفُثْ، وَلَمْ يَفْسُقْ، رَجَعَ كَيَوْمِ وَلَدَتْهُ أُمُّهُ"
"Whoever performs Hajj for Allah without engaging in sexual talk or sin, returns as sinless as the day he was born."
— Sahih al-Bukhari (1521)

Manners during Hajj include:

Sincerity (ikhlāṣ) and intention (niyyah).

Avoiding arguments, foul speech, and harm to others.

Patience with crowds and hardships.

Respect for the sacred sites and fellow pilgrims.

The Sahaba, such as Abdullah ibn Umar (RA), were known for their extreme care in following the Prophet's exact footsteps during Hajj.

A sincere Hajj brings spiritual rebirth and immense reward.
