Patience (ṣabr) is a cornerstone of Islamic ethics, especially during trials and hardships. It is a mark of true faith and a means to earn Allah's pleasure and reward.

Allah says:

 وَٱصْبِرُوا۟ وَمَا صَبْرُك إِلَّا بِٱللَّهِ
"And be patient, for your patience is only by Allah."
— Surah An-Nahl (16:127)

The Prophet ﷺ said:

 "وَعَجَبًا لأَمْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِ إِنَّ أَمْرَهُ كُلَّهُ خَيْرٌ"
"Amazing is the affair of the believer, for there is good for him in every matter..."
— Sahih Muslim (2999)
He explained that if a believer is afflicted with hardship, he is patient and rewarded.

Patience includes controlling anger, enduring difficulties without complaint, and trusting Allah's wisdom. The companions of the Prophet ﷺ exemplified extraordinary patience in persecution, poverty, and loss.

The Qur'an encourages believers:

 فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًۭا جَمِيلًۭا
"So be patient with gracious patience."
— Surah Al-Ma'arij (70:5)

Patience purifies the heart, strengthens resolve, and is a key to success in this life and the Hereafter.
