Kindness to the Young and Weak in Islam

Islam places immense value on showing compassion to the young, the weak, and the vulnerable. Mercy and gentleness are signs of a pure heart and high faith. The Prophet ﷺ was a shining example of kindness, especially toward children, orphans, the poor, and the weak.

He ﷺ said:

"لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يَرْحَمْ صَغِيرَنَا وَيَعْرِفْ حَقَّ كَبِيرِنَا"
"He is not one of us who does not show mercy to our young and honor our elders."
— Sunan At-Tirmidhi (1921)

Allah praises kindness and care in the Qur'an:

وَيُطْعِمُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِ مِسْكِينٗا وَيَتِيمٗا وَأَسِيرًا
"And they give food, in spite of love for it, to the needy, the orphan, and the captive."
— Surah Al-Insan (76:

The Prophet ﷺ would greet children, carry them, shorten prayers if he heard a baby crying, and never belittled anyone. Anas ibn Malik (RA) said: "I served the Prophet for 10 years. Not once did he scold me."

Caring for the young and weak reflects the Rahmah (mercy) that Allah loves. It transforms hearts, strengthens the Ummah, and draws one nearer to Paradise.
