Islam places immense value on good conduct with neighbors, whether Muslim or non-Muslim. Kindness to neighbors is not only a moral virtue but a religious obligation that reflects the strength of one's faith.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Jibril kept advising me about the neighbor until I thought he would make him an heir."
— Sahih al-Bukhari (6014)

Allah says:

"...and the neighbor who is near of kin, and the neighbor who is a stranger..."
— Surah An-Nisa' (4:36)

This includes:

Avoiding harm or disturbance.

Offering help during hardship.

Sharing food or blessings.

Greeting and checking on them regularly.

Abdullah ibn Umar (RA) used to give gifts to both Muslim and non-Muslim neighbors. When asked, he would say, "Because the Prophet ﷺ advised us to do so."

Harming a neighbor is a serious offense. The Prophet ﷺ warned:

"By Allah, he does not believe... the one whose neighbor is not safe from his harm."
— Sahih al-Bukhari (6016)

A good neighbor in Islam is a sign of a sincere believer.
