Islam teaches clear etiquette for entering and leaving the home, to promote peace, privacy, and barakah. These actions are not just cultural habits — they are acts of worship that draw Allah's protection.

When entering the home, a Muslim should say Bismillah and give Salam, even if no one is present:

فَإِذَا دَخَلْتُم بُيُوتًا فَسَلِّمُوا عَلَىٰ أَنفُسِكُمْ تَحِيَّةً مِّنْ عِندِ اللَّهِ
"But when you enter houses, greet one another with a greeting from Allah, blessed and good."
— Surah An-Nur (24:61)

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"إِذَا دَخَلَ الرَّجُلُ بَيْتَهُ فَذَكَرَ اللَّهَ عِندَ دُخُولِهِ وَعِندَ طَعَامِهِ، قَالَ الشَّيْطَانُ: لَا مَبِيتَ لَكُمْ وَلَا عَشَاءَ"
"When a man enters his house and mentions Allah at his entrance and when eating, Satan says: You have no place to stay and no food."
— Sahih Muslim (2018)

Knocking three times before entering, seeking permission, and avoiding intrusion are also part of adab. The Sahaba never entered the Prophet's room without permission, showing deep respect.

On leaving the home, the Sunnah du'a includes:

"بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ"

Such simple acts earn protection, tranquility, and divine blessings.
