In a shocking incident that has drawn public attention, the Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a middle-aged man identified as Alfa Basiru in Ibadan. The arrest followed a stop-and-search operation by Federal Highway Patrol Officers along the Toll Gate, Ibadan Expressway, on Wednesday, September 17.

According to police sources, officers intercepted a white bus with registration number XA 551 IRG during routine checks. Upon searching the vehicle, one of the passengers, later identified as Basiru, was allegedly found in possession of suspected human flesh. The startling discovery prompted immediate interrogation at the scene.

During questioning, the suspect reportedly admitted that the item was purchased in Lagos. Authorities, however, have not yet confirmed the authenticity of his claims. The case has since been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for thorough investigation and legal follow-up.

Meanwhile, forensic experts have taken custody of the suspicious material for scientific analysis. The police stated that the examination will determine whether the item is indeed human flesh or another substance, as the investigation unfolds. Officials have reassured the public that transparency will guide every step of the inquiry.

In a related development, the command disclosed another incident that occurred during routine checks on the same day. Officers stopped a Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 957 JX, but the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled before any questioning could take place.

The abandoned car was towed into police custody. Authorities are now urging individuals with legitimate ownership claims to come forward with proper documentation. The Oyo State Police Command also provided an official contact line (+234 808 176 8614) for verification and follow-up.

The command has further appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security operatives. Police officials stressed that community vigilance plays a critical role in curbing crimes and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Oyo State.
