Security forces in Sokoto State have arrested Sirajo Ahmad Dan Liman, the Deputy Chief Imam of the Central Jumu'ah Mosque in Kangiye, Atakwanyo Ward, Gwadabawa Local Government Area. He is accused of working with armed bandits in the region.

According to intelligence sources, investigations linked Sirajo to the supply of motorcycles and other essential goods to criminal gangs operating along the Tangaza–Niger Republic border. These items are believed to have been used to aid bandit operations.

Authorities reportedly uncovered N47 million in his bank account, suspected to be proceeds from illegal transactions with the armed groups. The discovery further deepened suspicion of his involvement in organized crime networks.

Investigations also revealed that Sirajo holds political influence in his community. He is the ward chairman of a political party in Atakwanyo and serves as the secretary of the forum of political party chairmen in Gwadabawa LGA.

Sirajo has a strong religious presence as he often deputised for his father, the Chief Imam, during Ramadan and Friday congregational prayers. Security operatives placed him under discreet surveillance for some time before finally arresting him.

Officials say the arrest is part of a wider crackdown aimed at dismantling the financial and logistical support systems that enable banditry in Sokoto and nearby states. The operation reflects the growing commitment of security agencies to cut off resources that sustain criminal activities in northern Nigeria.
