Masquerades have invaded a mosque and the Chief Imam's house in Oke Agbe, Akoko, Ondo State, assaulting his wives and children. This unprovoked attack occurred on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has strongly condemned the incident, labeling it as further proof of growing anti-Muslim sentiment in Yorubaland. MURIC demands immediate arrest and prosecution of the culprits.

Adding to the injustice, the town's king allegedly imposed fines on the Muslim victims. They were ordered to provide nine goats, seven sheep, and 200 kola nuts for "screaming and cursing" the masquerades during the assault.

MURIC views this as a severe miscarriage of justice, contradictory to principles of natural justice and modern democracy. The organization insists this "draconian" fine must be overturned.

MURIC urges the Ondo State Government to intervene and curb the excesses of the Oke Agbe king, ensuring the safety of the Imam and his family. The banishment order against them must be rescinded.

Furthermore, MURIC calls on the Ondo State Police Command to investigate the assault and ensure the attackers are brought to justice. They emphasize that the culprits are known, and the case should not be suppressed.

This incident, MURIC states, confirms their concerns about the challenges faced by Yoruba Muslims, including political and economic marginalization, educational repression, and social ostracization.
