Israel has refused to renew the visa of a top United Nations official who criticized its actions in Gaza. Jonathan Whittall, the head of the UN's humanitarian office (OCHA) in the occupied Palestinian areas, has been told to leave by the end of August.

Whittall lives in Jerusalem and travels often to Gaza for his work. He plays a key role in helping coordinate aid and humanitarian support in the region. His removal could affect ongoing relief operations.

The decision is reportedly linked to his strong criticism of Israel's handling of humanitarian access to Gaza, especially accusations of blocking food and aid. Whittall had spoken out about the severe hunger crisis in the area.

UN officials say this move will further weaken efforts to support civilians in Gaza. It may also pressure other humanitarian workers to stay silent.

This is not the first time Israel has restricted aid workers. More international staff are facing delays, denials, or expulsions in recent months.

Global human rights groups and UN officials have raised concerns. They say cutting off top aid staff may worsen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and harm innocent civilians the most.
