Tragedy struck Lade community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State on Sunday, August 17, 2025, as suspected bandits shot and killed a respected community leader, Alhaji Gomina Lade. The shocking incident happened shortly after evening 'Isha'i' prayers at the local mosque.

According to eyewitnesses, Alhaji Gomina had just finished observing prayers and was on his way home when armed men suddenly attacked. Without warning, they opened fire on him, leaving him dead instantly before fleeing the scene under the cover of darkness.

Residents described the killing as cold-blooded and unprovoked, noting that Alhaji Gomina was widely admired for his commitment to both religious duties and community development. His death has thrown the entire Lade community into deep mourning and fear.

Community members said the late leader was more than just a figurehead; he was a peacemaker who mediated disputes and supported many social and religious causes. Losing him to such brutal violence has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill.

Local leaders have urgently appealed to the Kwara State Government and security agencies to increase security presence in Lade and surrounding villages. They warned that continued silence could embolden criminals and escalate insecurity in the region.

The killing of Alhaji Gomina highlights the growing security challenges across rural communities in Nigeria. Residents continue to demand swift government action to prevent further loss of lives and restore peace in Kwara State.
