A alarming report from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reveals a sharp increase in child malnutrition across Gaza. Currently, one in five children there is severely affected, a truly heartbreaking situation.

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini paints a grim picture: many children arriving at their clinics are visibly weak and suffering from severe wasting. Without immediate medical help, their risk of death is incredibly high.

The agency also confirmed a tragic toll: over 100 people have died from hunger-related causes, with the vast majority being innocent children. This highlights the urgent and deadly impact of the ongoing crisis on Gaza's youngest.

Lazzarini emphasizes that this crisis devastates entire families. Parents themselves are often too malnourished to properly care for their children, creating a compounding tragedy within households.

Adding to the despair, healthcare workers are overwhelmed. The war-torn region faces critical shortages of both essential medical supplies and qualified staff, making it incredibly difficult to address the immense needs.

This dire situation in Gaza demands immediate and sustained global attention to prevent further loss of life and alleviate the suffering of its most vulnerable population – its children.
