Famine has officially been declared in Gaza City, the largest city in the Gaza Strip. According to the United Nations rights chief, this crisis is a direct outcome of Israeli military actions. He emphasized that using starvation as a weapon is considered a war crime under international law. The mass deaths resulting from this blockade could amount to what he described as "wilful killing."

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has confirmed that famine is already under way in Gaza City, where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are struggling to survive under dire conditions. The IPC attributed the disaster to Israel's total blockade, which has stopped life-saving aid from reaching the civilian population.

The report further warned that the famine could rapidly spread beyond Gaza City. Other densely populated areas, including Deir al Balah and Khan Younis, are expected to fall into famine conditions before the end of next month if humanitarian corridors are not opened immediately.

The humanitarian situation remains critical, with hospitals overwhelmed, food stocks exhausted, and clean water scarce. Aid groups continue to call on the international community to press for an urgent lifting of the blockade and unrestricted delivery of essential supplies.

This escalating famine highlights the urgent need for global action to protect civilian lives in Palestine. Without immediate intervention, thousands more may face preventable deaths from hunger and disease.
