Bangladesh Boosts Skilled Workforce Recruitment for Saudi Arabia Jobs

Bangladesh is strengthening its labor partnership with Saudi Arabia by preparing to send a larger number of skilled workers under a newly signed recruitment agreement. Officials announced the development after an official deal was concluded in Riyadh, aimed at expanding employment opportunities for Bangladeshi nationals in the Kingdom. With around 3 million Bangladeshis already living and working there — the largest foreign community in Saudi Arabia — this new pact marks a significant step forward in bilateral labor cooperation.

Since the 1970s, Bangladeshi workers have contributed to Saudi Arabia's economy, mostly under limited memoranda of understanding targeting specific sectors. However, the fresh agreement — signed by Saudi Human Resources Minister Ahmad bin Sulaiman Al-Rajhi and Bangladesh's Overseas Employment Adviser Asif Nazrul — is the first comprehensive framework for recruiting general workers across multiple professions. It promises improved protection of rights for both workers and employers, while boosting the quality and scope of employment opportunities.

The demand for skilled labor in Saudi Arabia has surged due to numerous ongoing infrastructure projects. According to Mokhlesur Rahman Akand, joint secretary of Bangladesh's training ministry, the current requirement is about 30,000 certified workers per month. The government is now focused on meeting Saudi standards to ensure its workforce remains competitive and sought-after.

To achieve this, candidates are trained and tested under the Saudi Skill Verification Program, introduced in 2021 as part of Vision 2030. Certification is overseen by the Saudi agency Takamol, with assessments conducted online across 104 Technical Training Centers in Bangladesh.

Most Bangladeshi workers are currently employed in construction, and demand is expected to grow further as Saudi Arabia prepares for major events like the AFC Asian Cup 2027, World Expo 2030, and FIFA World Cup 2034.

Authorities are confident that by early next year, Bangladesh will fully meet Saudi Arabia's workforce targets — strengthening economic ties while offering its citizens better employment prospects abroad.
